Norrie off to a Quck Start

Picking up from where he left last year, defending champion Cameron Norrie made a quick start to oust Tseng Chun-hsin and reach the quarterfinals of the Los Cabos Open.

The World No. 12, who beat Brandon Nakashima for the title last year, improved his tournament record to 9-2. He had also been a semifinalist in 2018.

On Wednesday, the left-handed Norrie saved four break points in the very first game of the match before settling into the contest. He went up a break to lead 1-3, saw Tseng respond with an immediate break but broke again in the eighth game. There was no stopping Norrie from that point on.

The British player won nine games in a row to beat the World No. 84, 6-3, 6-0. Such was Norrie’s dominance in the second set, that he dropped just one point on his serve and seven points on return.

It has been another terrific year for Norrie, who won two titles, in Delray Beach and Lyon, and finished runner-up in Acapulco. He is also coming off his best-ever Grand Slam display, reaching the semifinals at Wimbledon, before going down to Novak Djokovic.

Albot Dumps Kubler

A day after battling past Spanish wild card Feliciano Lopez in three, Moldova’s Radu Albot needed just an hour and 19 minutes to beat Australia’s Jason Kubler 6-4 6-2.

Albot saved half of the four break points that he faced and converted all five that he held to cruise into the last eight of a tour-level event for the first time this season.

The Moldovan, ranked No. 118 in the world, had a 5-7 record prior to the tournament.

A semifinalist in Los Cabos in 2019, Albot now has a 5-1 tournament record.

The 32-year-old one-time ATP champion won’t be the favourite to beat Norrie on Thursday, but if he does win against the odds he will be making his way into a first semifinal since reaching that far in Singapore last year.

Norrie v Albot Prediction and Tip

Norrie is the overwhelming favourite in this contest. Expect him to win with ease.
