Aryna Sabalenka v Daria Kasatkina Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two players and Sabalenka leads 3-1 on the head to head. Interestingly all those matches came in the second round of those competitions in Beijing, Roland-Garros, Australian Open and Madrid.

While Kasatkina had won their first meeting, it was Sabalenka who has clinched the last three.

Sabalenka Scrapes Past Dolehide

For a world number six to go into her second round encounter at 13/100 favourite to win it and to then need three sets to scrape through could be down to a combination of lack of form and rustiness. The former has been Sabalenka’s issue all season.

Sure, Sabalenka has made it to two tournament finals but has looked like a pale shadow of her old self this season. This was on display in the last tournament she played too, when in Berlin she was knocked out in her opener by Veronika Kudermetova.

Here, Sabalenka dropped the first set and was down 3-5 in the final set before squeaking past her 168th-ranked opponent in an encounter that lasted two hours and 38 minutes.

Can Sabalenka shrug off that rustiness at least coming into this quarterfinal against Kasatkina?

Kasatkina Continues to Exude Confidence

After having sent the Wimbledon champion packing in the first round at San Jose, Kasatkina continued to display her mettle as she carved out an easy win over Taylor Townsend in the second.

Kasatkina won 6-4, 6-0 in an hour and 10 minutes against her 316th-ranked opponent looking to make a comeback to the tennis fold.

She did endure one break of serve in the first set but broke her American opponent two more times in return before adding three more in the second set to seal the deal.

This gave Kasatkina her 29th win on tour this season to go with 14 losses and she should come into this quarterfinal knowing she has the game to dismantle a troubled Sabalenka.

Sabalenka v Kasatkina Prediction and Tip

It’s a bit of a surprise Sabalenka enters this one as a favourite but it could be down to their previous head to head. What one needs to see is this isn’t the same level of tennis Sabalenka has been playing and Kasatkina could get the better of her here.
