Matteo Berrettini v Pablo Carreno Busta Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players and that came at the 2022 Australian Open. It was Berrettini who came out on top, winning the encounter in straight sets to move into the quarterfinal.

Berrettini Coming off Three Successive Finals

Berrettini will feature in his first match on hard court surfaces since his Indian Wells Masters campaign was ended by Miomir Kecmanovic earlier this year in the fourth round.

He went on a hiatus after that because of injury only to return stronger and make it to three successive finals.

While Berrettini did miss Wimbledon because of Covid, he was a title winner at both, Stuttgart Open and Queen’s Club while finishing runner-up on the clay courts of Gstaad.

It will be interesting to see how well he switches to the hard courts of Canada, but he has a semifinal appearance at Australian Open from earlier this year under his belt. That should give him enough confidence despite taking to court against a player ranked as high as the 23rd Carreno Busta is.

Carreno Busta Not at His Best Since Barcelona Final

He had made it through to the final at the Barcelona Open earlier this year where Carreno Busta then lost to teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz. Since then, however, the Spaniard has not quite been at his best.

In the 16 matches he has featured in since that title-decider, Carreno-Busta has won just seven while falling short of the mark on nine occasions. That includes first round defeats at Madrid, Lyon, Roland Garros, Mallorca and Wimbledon.

He now switches over to the hard court surfaces of the US Open Series having last featured in a match on it in Miami where he was a third round loser. Earlier he had also crashed out of the Indian Wells Masters in the first round.

With Berrettini as his opponent here and having not had any competitive match on hard courts since March, it does not look like Carreno Busta’s recent dry spell is going to improve any time sooner.

Berrettini v Carreno Busta Prediction and Tip

Berrettini starts off a 2/5 favourite and it comes as no surprise why. In fact if he can shrug that rustiness off quicker than his opponent can, it could result in a straight-set victory for the Italian too.

Tip: Berrettini to win in straight sets: 10/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
