While we were writing the preview, Daria Kasatkina was preparing to play her semifinal in San Jose.

The World no. 12, who hasn’t reached a final this year, will be featuring in the season’s fifth semifinal in San Jose. She reached the final four by knocking out Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the first round and followed it up with wins over Taylor Townsend and Aryna Sabalenka over the next two rounds.

Thanks to the three wins, Kasatkina is 30-14 this year.

The 25-year-old, who has won four titles from nine finals in her career, was also a semifinalist at Roland Garros, the Italian Open, Sydney Tennis Classic and Melbourne Summer Set 2 this year.

Andreescu Looking for First Win on Hard Court in 2022

2019 champion Bianca Andreescu has had to endure a couple of tough years owing to injuries and lack of form. But the Canadian is slowly getting back to form.

The 22-year-old made it to her first final of the season in Bad Homburg in June after getting a walkover in the semifinal against Simona Halep, but she lost a close final to Caroline Garcia.

Andreescu, who was also a quarterfinalist in Rome this year, brings a 12-8 season record into the tournament. The 2019 U.S. Open champion lost in the first round of the San Jose Open this week, falling to Shelby Rogers in straight sets.

The World no. 54 will be making her third main draw appearance in Toronto. Last year, the three-time tour-level champion had fallen to Ons Jabeur in the third round.

She is 0-1 on hard courts this year, can she begin her campaign on a winning note?

Kasatkina v Andreescu Prediction and Tip

Kasatkina is in terrific form and will hold the edge, but it won’t be easy for the 11th seed against the Canadian. Three sets seem imminent with Kasatkina edging through.
