Andy Murray v Taylor Fritz Head to Head

50th-ranked Andy Murray has not clashed against 13th-ranked Taylor Fritz before this.

Murray Returns to Top 50

Andy Murray’s long road to achieving his dream may be partly fulfilled, but re-entering the world’s top 50 seems like a very encouraging step.

Murray’s determination to get back into the world’s elite is gathering pace, a few years on from career-ending hip surgery. He has put in incredible work both on and off the court and is now seeing the rewards.

The Briton is back in the world’s top 50 after putting together a productive return of results for the first time since 2017. His 22 wins in the first half of the season are the most he has managed since 2016 – the year he became No. 1 for the first time.

Murray has been to two finals this year, most recently on his favorite surface – grass-  in Stuttgart, losing narrowly to Matteo Berrettini. These are the sort of results that should give him plenty of optimism that it may just be a sensible decision to carry on picking up his wand.

Fritz Winless on Canadian Soil

Taylor Fritz is the current top-ranked American in the rankings after surging into the world’s Top 15. Fritz has played some of the best tennis of his life this year, most notably at Indian Wells when he shockingly won his first ATP Masters 1000 title by upsetting the in-form Rafael Nadal.

While very few moments since then have come close to matching that feat in the California desert, he did collect his second title of the season at Eastbourne and went on to make the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam for the first time at Wimbledon.

Fritz arrives at the Canadian Open on the back of a retirement defeat in Washington. The American trailed Dan Evans in his second-round match this past 6-3 6-7 1-4 when he pulled out due to illness in scorching conditions at the Citi Open.

Fritz has played once in Montreal before this, losing in the first round in 2019, while his other two appearances in Toronto also brought first-round losses.

Murray v Fritz Prediction and Tip

This should be a gripping contest and Murray’s luck with tough draws continues. I think Fritz’s A-game should stifle out Murray here, but with confirmed reports of Fritz dealing with a foot injury prior to his Washington appearance and his recent retirement due to heat, this could be Murray’s moment to pounce.

Tip: Murray to win a set – Yes: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
