Venus Williams v Jil Teichmann Head to Head
Venus Williams and Teichmann have never faced off in a competitive encounter before this.

For all her solid record spread across the Grand Slams and WTA 1000 events, Venus Williams hasn’t done too well in Canada. Having featured in seven previous editions of this competition, she has never reached the quarterfinal at this tournament.
In fact five of those seven competitions resulted in first round exits and only once has she managed a third round appearance.
This year, Venus has been out of action too. In fact it was only last week in Washington did she play her first competitive match since August last season. It came in the first round of that tournament and the elder of the Williams sisters lost to Canadian wildcard Rebecca Marino.
That three-setter, however, did show that Venus might have been out of action for 12 months but it wasn’t all ruins and doom – she did manage to scalp a set off her opponent despite the obvious rustiness. That should given Venus Williams hope coming into this opener.

Teichmann 5-6 on Hard Courts This Season
Having not made it to the Washington Open as a direct entrant, Teichmann opted to feature in the qualifiers but was a shock loser to Elizabeth Mandlik in the second of those rounds.
Having gone into that match as a 1/5 favourite, the world number 21 fell in three sets despite having taken a set lead.
What makes things worse is Teichmann has struggled on hard court surfaces all her career and this year has been no different. The Swiss player has an 11-4 win-loss record on clay but 5-6 in hard court competitions and that is where Venus might see an opening.
This is despite Teichmann going into the match as a 4/25 favourite to triumph.
Williams v Teichmann Prediction and Tip
While the disparity in the rankings of these players is huge, Teichmann’s struggles on hard court surfaces gives Venus bit of a chance. We think we could see a fight but Teichmann to still come through.
