Iga Swiatek v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the Canadian Open too when in 2019 Swiatek got herself a win when her opponent retired from the encounter after suffering an injury.

Swiatek Makes Hard Court Return
The last time the world number one Swiatek was on court for a hard court competition was way back in the early parts of April when she went on to crush Naomi Osaka in the final of the Miami Open to lift the title.
That had followed a tournament victory in Indian Wells, giving her the Sunshine Double, with the world number one having also won the WTA Doha on the same surface before that.
That victory in Doha, incidentally, was the beginning of her 37-match winning run which had culminated into a title at the French Open before she fell in the third round at Wimbledon.
And then featuring in her home competition, Swiatek won a couple of rounds at the Poland Open as well before crashing out in the quarterfinals, losing to Caroline Garcia.
Her return to hard court and the US Open Series is much awaited given how much of a favourite she already is at the upcoming US Open. Her performances here will go a long way in deciding which way the bookmakers tilt in the weeks to come.

Tomljanovic Stuns In-Form Kudermetova
It took Tomljanovic two hours and 21 minutes spread across three sets and three match-points in the final set to surprise the in-form Veronika Kudermetova in the first round of this tournament.
Tomljanovic, who was broken a whopping six times in the encounter, hit back when it really mattered. She earned just one break-point in the opening set which she converted to clinch the set before getting herself ahead on three separate occasions in the final set.
She was unable to hold on to her own serve but come the tie-breaker, Tomljanovic notched up her fifth first round win in hard court competitions for the season.
The fact, however, she has never won the second round on this surface in 2022 and against Swiatek that record might not change.
