Tsitispas Looking for Another Deep Run

Two titles from four finals and a 42-14 record, that’s how Stefanos Tsitsipas’ season has been so far.

The World No. 5 is 17-7 on hard courts, which includes a runner-up finish in Rotterdam and semifinal finishes at the Australian Open and the Acapulco Open.

Tsitsipas’ two titles this year came on clay in Monte Carlo and on grass in Mallorca. He also reached the final in Rome, only to finish runner-up to Novak Djokovic.

The Greek will be playing for the first time since his third round loss to Nick Kyrgios at Wimbledon. The 23-year-old has an 8-3 record at the Canadian Open.

He reached the final on debut in 2018 only to fall to Rafael Nadal. The following year he couldn’t win even a single match, but made it to the final four last year before being beaten by Reilly Opelka. Seeded No. 3 this year, Tsitsipas will be hoping to get his campaign off to a great start in the second round and then build from there.

Draper Outclasses Gaston

British qualifier Jack Draper made an impressive debut at the Canadian Open, knocking out another qualifier Hugo Gaston in straight sets on Tuesday.

The match, which was suspended with Draper in the lead on Monday, didn’t last long as the 20-year-old ousted the Frenchman 6-2, 6-3.

The World No. 82 won the first set with ease, breaking the Frenchman twice. He also took a 2-0 lead in the second set, but Gaston drew level at 2-2. Draper, who has been making quite an impression at the Challenger level this year, raced away with the match, by winning the last four games in a row.

The win improved the Briton to 9-6 on the tour this season. The lefty reached his first four Challenger finals this year, winning all four of them. All of them were hard court tournaments, with three of them played in Forli, Italy and one in Saint-Brieuc, France.

Having got off to off brisk start, can he pull off a huge upset in the next round?

Tsitsipas v Draper Prediction and Tip

Tsitsipas will be wary of Draper and his hard court form. But the third seed is expected to win and advance to the next round.
