Belinda Bencic v Serena Williams Head to Head

23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has announced her intention to ‘evolve away from tennis’ after the US Open this year, suggesting that she is set to retire from the sport soon.

Bencic Upsets Martincova
Belinda Bencic is off to a good start in the tournament as she dispatched Tereza Martincova 6-4, 6-2.
Now ranked World No. 12, the 25-year-old will hope to repeat her title run from 2015. However, that is a tall order to deliver as she is likely to run into big guns like Garbine Muguruza and Iga Swiatek, should she surpass Williams.
Nonetheless, Belinda has some momentum on her side as she arrived in Toronto with a tally of 28-13 and singles finals in Charleston and Berlin. She was also a semifinalist in Miami and a quarterfinalist in St. Petersburg and Sydney.
Add to this equation her decent pedigree, experience, and solid record against top 10 players, it becomes evident that she is well poised to trouble Williams.

On paper, Bencic should do well to win this one. She has stamina and momentum on her side. But given that she is playing Serena Williams, anything can happen.
