Belinda Bencic v Sorana Cirstea Head to Head

It’s 1-0 to Cirstea; they last met in the 2021 Grampians Trophy where the Romanian stunned the then number two seed in straight sets.

Bencic Playing with Superb Consistency

Belinda Bencic, 25-year-old Swiss, has enjoyed an excellent start to her campaign in North America as she looks to solidify her gains ahead of the US Open.

This is also her best-performing Grand Slam with three late-stage appearances in her six times in New York.

Playing in the Canadian Open last week, she made it to the quarterfinal before losing to the rising Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. However, on her way to the elite eight, the number 12 seed dispatched a handful of big names like Tereza Martincova, former world number one players Serena Williams and Garbine Muguruza – all in straight sets.

The last time Bencic was in Cincinnati, she was a quarterfinalist and given her recent form, there is no reason why it cannot be the case again.

Belinda has enjoyed a good year so far; her tally is 31-14 with two singles finals – a title in Charleston and a runner-up feat in Berlin.

Cirstea, Low on Momentum

32-year-old Sorana Cirstea, now ranked #38, has had a disappointing spell of late.

Her last tournament was in Prague where she fell in the first round to Oksaka Selekhmetova; such has been the case for most of her tournaments this season.

But credit where it is due, Cirstea has had her moments – notably in Lyon, Istanbul, and Birmingham, where she was a semifinalist. The Romanian is certainly tenacious and skilled with late-stage runs on all three surfaces. Apart from this, she also reached the round of 16 in Indian Wells and the Australian Open.

That said, consistency continues to elude Sorana as her record now stands at 19-17.

Bencic v Cirstea Prediction and Tip

Bencic is in form and appears to be in her element. Cirstea faces an uphill task of upsetting the seeded Swiss. Expect no surprises here; Belinda should win this one comfortably.
