Who is Playing at This Year’s Cincinnati Open?

Ash Barty had won the last edition of the women’s singles competition in Cincinnati but has retired from the sport, leaving the world number one Iga Swiatek with the mantle of leading the draw at this year’s competition.

Swiatek will be joined by most of the top-ranked players including Anett Kontaveit, Paula Badosa, Maria Sakkari and Ons Jabeur, all of whom would want to better their showing from the previous week’s Canadian Open.

Serena Williams will also be in action for what could be the penultimate tournament of her career.

The men’s draw will be led by Daniil Medvedev and he will be joined by the second seeded Rafael Nadal, who returns to action after his Wimbledon withdrawal because of an abdominal injury.

Also joining these players will be Carlos Alcaraz, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud.

Defending champion Alexander Zverev misses out because of a fitness concern while Novak Djokovic won’t be playing because of his vaccination status.

Our Cincinnati Open 2022 Predictions & Picks

Iga Swiatek kick-starts the WTA Cincinnati Open as a title favourite at 3/1 but after her excellent, 37-match winning streak was ended earlier this year, she has looked a pale shadow of her best.

The second-favourite is the Canadian Open winner Simona Halep but expecting her to get herself another six-match winning run in back to back weeks could be a challenge. Ons Jabeur and Aryna Sabalenka are the next two in the line of favourites.

The men’s draw has Daniil Medvedev starting off as a favourite again but his form has been anything but exemplary in recent times. Rafael Nadal could be a tad rusty coming in while Carlos Alcaraz looked to be under a lot of pressure of being a top-5 player as he broke down last week.

With Nick Kyrgios opting to play, he could aim to win his maiden Masters title at an event he has made the final one in his career.
