Carlos Alcaraz v Mackenzie McDonald Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came earlier this year at the Indian Wells Open where Alcaraz completed a straight-set win to reach the third round.

After Alcaraz fell to Tommy Paul in the second round of the Canadian Open last week, it was evident the loss was more to do with the mental aspect of the game than physical or technical.
At the end of the match, the world number four admitted he had not endured the kind of pressure he did after making that sharp ascent up the rankings. That is something Alcaraz will need to live with as he grapples with another Masters 1000 tournament expectations coming into the Cincinnati Open.
And Alcaraz, who has won four ATP titles in 2022 including a couple of Masters titles, said he is looking to do what he can do best – train hard and turn things around pressure-wise coming into this tournament.
His aim? To reproduce what he had in Miami earlier this year and during the clay court season.

McDonald Scuppers Basilashvili
It did not take long for the world number 73 McDonald to romp into the second round with a comprehensive win against Nikoloz Basilashvili.
McDonald dropped just one game in his 53-minute drubbing of the woefully out of sorts Basilashvili, slamming eight aces and facing not a single break-point. He won 18 of the 20 points off his first serve and broke Basilashvili six times in the encounter to complete the rout.
Why this win becomes even more special for McDonald is he had come into this encounter on the back of three successive losses, including one to Alex Molcan in Montreal.
And while he will now have a bigger challenge on his hands coming up against the world number four, there will be a bigger spring in his stride for this one.
Alcaraz v McDonald Prediction and Tip
Alcaraz faces his own demons and that would be his only challenge. And while that’s a big enough obstacle to overcome, against McDonald that shouldn’t be much of a problem.
