Hubert Hurkacz v John Isner Head to Head

Isner is 2-0 against the Pole, with one of those victories coming in Cincinnati in 2020. His other win came in Washington.

World No. 10 Hubert Hurkacz is coming off a brilliant performance at the Canadian Masters.

The 25-year-old Pole ousted the red-hot Nick Kyrgios and the dominant Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively but went down to Pablo Carreno Busta in a three-set contest on Sunday.

A five-time champion on the tour, it was the first time that Hurkacz had lost a tour-level final. Following the runner-up finish, Hurkacz is now 32-14 for the season, which includes a titles success in Halle.

This is the fifth time that Hurkacz will be competing in Cincinnati. After making first round exits in the first three years, the Pole won his first two matches last year, but fell to Carreno Busta in the Round of 16.

A very good player on hard courts, Hurkacz has an 18-8 record on the surface. He has won four of his five titles on the surface as well, including the Miami Open last year.

Additionally, Hurkacz has been doing well in doubles as well and won two titles this year, one of them was the Miami Open, which he won with Isner — his Wednesday’s opponent.

Isner Battles Past Bonzi

John Isner served 31 aces and hit 55 winners as he battled past France’s Benjamin Bonzi in a two-hour-and-23-minute contest.

The American didn’t hold a single break point in the match, while saved 3 of 4 to edge past the Frenchman 7-6 (13-11), 3-6, 7-6 (7-4). While Isner saved three set points in the first set tiebreak before winning it 13-11, he dominated the final set tiebreak to reach the second round in Cincinnati for the 11th time.

Isner was a finalist in Cincinnati in 2013, going down to Rafael Nadal. He was also a semifinalist in 2017, but has not gone beyond the third round in the last two years.

Ranked No. 50 in the world, the 37-year-old improved to 19-15 following Monday’s win. He was a semifinalist in Newport and a quarterfinalist in Atalanta — his last two tournaments.

Isner also made it to his 30th ATP final earlier this year, only to finish runner-up to Reilly Opelka in Houston. Another notable performance was in Dallas, where he made the final four, but was halted by Opelka.

Hurkacz v Isner Prediction and Tip

Having done well in Tornoto, Hurkacz would look to keep the momentum going in Cincinnati. Expect the Pole to edge past the big American.
