Roberto Bautista Agut v Marcos Giron Head to Head
They met for the first time last week in Montreal, with Bautista Agut winning the match 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

Roberto Bautista Agut fought back from a set down to oust Francisco Cerundolo in the opening round of the Cincinnati Open on Monday.
Bautista Agut had lost to Casper Ruud in the Round of 16 at the Canadian Open last week. Bautista Agut had taken the first set in that match but Ruud had rallied past him in three.
On Monday, it was the Spaniard’s turn to score a comeback win. He lost a 5-3 lead in the first set tiebreak before being edged out by the Argentine in the opening set. But the Spaniard made a strong return over the next two sets for a 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-2 win in two hours and 40 minutes.
The Spaniard landed 66% of his first serves and won 75% of those points. He also saved 5 of 6 break points and converted 4 of 14. He got fewer winners than Cerundolo’s 40, but also made 33 fewer unforced errors than his opponent’s 53.
The World no. 19 has been in good form throughout the year and Monday’s win was his 30th of the season. He won two of his 11 titles in 2022, in Doha (hard) and Kitzbuhel (clay), and also finished runner-up on grass in Mallorca.
A semifinalist in Cincinnati in 2020 and a quarterfinalist in 2019, Bautista Agut will look to keep the winning run going in the second round on Wednesday.

Giron Knocks Out Qualifier Goffin
World no. 54 Marcos Giron stormed into the second round with a straight sets win over World no. 62 David Goffin.
The battle between the qualifiers lasted an hour and 22 minutes with Giron breaking the Belgian once in both the sets and sealing the contest 6-3, 6-4.
The American won 73% of his service points in the match and saved both the break points that he faced. He also made just 9 unforced errors to Goffin’s 18.
With the win, Giron improved his season record to 12-22 and his Cincinnati record to 2-2.
He had made it to the main draw with qualifying round wins over fellow American Denis Kudla and Italian Fabio Fognini in the first and second rounds respectively. Neither of those two matches had needed a third set.
Bautista Agut v Giron Prediction and Tip
Having beaten Giron last week, Bautista Agut will hold the edge this week as well. Expect the 15th seed to beat the American again in two closely contested sets.
