Emma Raducanu is in rare form in Cincinnati as she continues to make quick work of former world number one players.
She spoiled Serena Williams’ farewell party in the first round by handing her a 6-4, 6-0 defeat. She upped the ante more in round two and dispatched Victoria Azarenka 6-0, 6-2 in just 63 minutes.
That match saw Raducanu win 70% of the points on the first serve while capitalising on a sloppy performance by Victoria. With these wins, the 19-year-old has improved her tally to 13-14.
One more win and Emma would have won more than two matches in a tournament for the first time since her title run in the US Open last season.
Of course, it may be tricky as she is playing Pegula next – a player who has been more consistent and in-form than the likes of Williams and Azarenka this season. Nonetheless, Raducanu will be confident following her dominant wins and hopes to do the same in round three.

Pegula Outlasts Kostyuk
Jessica Pegula, starting with a bye into round two, is among the favourites to reach the latter rounds in Cincinnati. She started off with a shaky, three-set win over Marta Kostyuk, ultimately winning with 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-2.
The American last played in Toronto, where she made it to the semifinal before losing to Simona Halep. It has been a fantastic season for the 28-year-old, who cracked the top 10 and peaked at World No. 7 (current ranking is #8).
Pegula was a runner-up in Madrid, a quarterfinalist in the Australian Open and French Open, and a semifinalist in Miami. Apart from this, she also won four doubles titles across Melbourne, Doha, Washington, and Toronto. Jessica was a runner-up in the French Open doubles as well.
With her tally now at 30-15 – backed by an incredible pedigree – the experienced Pegula is the favourite to outperform the novice Raducanu.
Pegula v Raducanu Prediction and Tip
This will be a great match. Raducanu is likely to find herself in stormy waters as Pegula, with her superior form and momentum, looks to reach yet another quarterfinal on the tour.
However, Emma has done the impossible before and backing her to do it again now may not be the worst move to make.
