Roberto Bautista Agut played well in Montreal and he lost in the 3rd to Casper Ruud. He’ll have a chance to move on round further in Cincinnati when he faces a familiar face in Cincinnati. There was a good chance the Spaniard could have faced compatriot Nadal but a stunning throwback performance from Borna Coric didn’t allow it to happen.
He faced the Croatian seven times and he leads 4-3. Most of those matches happened a few years ago as Coric was largely absent in the past two years due to a shoulder injury. The win over Nadal marks his official proper comeback so Agut will need to be read.
The Spaniard is fairly consistent but he’s also quite beatable. Recently he’s been struggling with longer matches dropping hi level but a trophy in Kitzbuhel clearly lifted his spirits and it’s showing in the last two events. His chances for a quarterfinal are fairly high but he’ll need to avoid some of the mistakes Nadal did against Coric.
The odds favour him and a 31-12 record certainly backs that up.

Coric Stuns Nadal
Borna Coric was once ranked inside the top 20 at number 12 so his tennis talent was never in doubt. He showed all of it against Nadal beating the Spaniard in his first match since Wimbledon. The win over Nadal was impressive but it can be explained.
Nadal himself admitted before the event that he doesn’t expect many good things but he would have liked to get in a couple of more matches before US Open. Either way, a very inspired Coric produced an attacking effort finishing it off with a superb forehand winner.
Coric plays an aggressive style which creates many winners but also plenty of mistakes. In his best days, he was rather good at balancing those two but coming back from a shoulder injury has been tough. He missed almost two years but wins like this prove he’s getting close.
They key for him will be the serve and the forehand and if both work, it will be interesting. His record is 13-12 as he didn’t play much easing himself back.
Bautista Agut v Coric Prediction and Tip
As well as Coric played against Nadal it’s rather unlikely he repeats that performance. He will also face a player who is playing in pretty good form at the moment making things even harder.
Nadal didn’t play a good match so the win can be explained. If Bautista produces his precise and consistent game from the baseline, he should have enough.
