Yulia Putintseva v Magda Linette Head to Head

Linette leads 4-2. But the Kazakh won their most recent matchup in Istanbul this year.

Putintseva Faces a Tough Opponent

Despite her first round defeat to Madison Keys in the opening round in Cincinnati this week, Yulia Putintseva still will feel good about her recent form.

The World No. 38 was in the quarterfinals in Toronto last week. It was just her second quarterfinal appearance at a WTA 1000 event. She was also a semifinalist in Budapest not long ago and brings a 24-16 season record (including qualifiers) into the tournament.

In the main draws, she has a 17-14 record this year, which also includes a semifinal finish in Istanbul.

A two-time tour-level champion from five finals, both of Putintseva’s triumphs came on clay, while all three of her runner-up finishes were on hard courts.

Most recently she reached the final in Astana last year, only to lose to Alison Van Uytvanck.

She will be hoping to quickly overcome her first round defeat in Cincinnati and start off well in Cleveland, but faces an opponent who has a superior record against her.

Linette Was a Semifinalist Last Year

World no. 70 Magda Linette has featured in three tour-level quarterfinals this year and comes to Cleveland with an overall record of 26-21 from all levels.

This week she failed to qualify for the Cincinnati Open, losing in the second qualifying round to Terreza Martincova. She had a decent run in her previous two tournaments at home in Poland. While she reached the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 in Prague, she was a finalist at an ITF event in Poland.

Linette also featured in the quarterfinals of the Charleston Open and the Strasbourg Open at the tour-level and a WTA 125 quarterfinal in Saint Malo.

Last year, she had made it to the semis in Cleveland, defeating Daria Kasatkina in the last eight stage. She eventually fell to Irina-Camelia Begu and has not made the final four of a tour-level event since then. Cans she have a similar impact this year?

Putintseva v Linette Prediction and Tip

With Linette dominating the rivalry, Putintseva will be a bit cautious. But she is the superior player and should beat the Pole in straight sets.

Tip: Putintseva to win in straight sets: 11/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
