Cameron Norrie v Borna Coric Head to Head

It’s 1-1 from their two meetings. Norrie won in Shenzhen in 2018, while Coric won in Rome.

Norrie Wins Another Three-Setter, Halts Alcaraz

Cameron Norrie won a three-set contest for a third time this week as the Briton edged past Carlos Alacaraz 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (4-7), 6-4 in a three-hour-and-four-minute quarterfinal.

Alcaraz had better numbers in terms of winners (43 to Norrie’s 25) and total points (120 to Norrie’s 115), but he could capitalise on just 2 of 13 break point opportunities, while Norrie broke the 19-year-old three times from eight breaking chances.

It was the third teen that Norrie defeated in Cincinnati this week, following a 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-4 win over Holger Rune in the first round and a 6-0, 6-2 drubbing of Ben Shelton in the third round. Norrie’s second round win came over former No. 1 Andy Murray, as he bounced back from a set down to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

With the win, the 26-year-old lefty is now 40-18 this season. This is just the second time he has made his way to the semifinals of a Masters 1000 tournament. The last time he did that, he went on to win the title in Indian Wells in 2021.

A four-time champion on the tour, Norrie will be looking to reach a fifth final of the season. He triumphed in Delray Beach and Lyon and was a finalist in Acapulco and Los Cabos. Can he keep his remarkable run going?

Resurgent Coric Reaches Third Masters 1000 Semifinals

A resurgent Borna Coric knocked out the seventh seed Felix Auger-Aliassime on Friday to reach a third Masters 1000 semifinal of his career.

The Croatian, who endured a couple of difficult seasons and also needed a shoulder surgery last year, returned to the tour in March this year, but remained off-colour for most parts of the year, bringing a 4-8 record to Cincinnati. But fortunes have changed for the World no. 152, who seems to have regained the touch that saw him once peak to No. 12 in the rankings.

Coric had begun his campaign with a straight sets win over Lorenzo Musetti in the opening round. He followed it up by causing the biggest upset of the tournament in the second round by beating Rafael Nadal 7-6 (11-9), 4-6, 6-3. He continued his stunning run by trouncing 15th seed Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 6-3 in the Round of 16.

On Friday, he didn’t face a single break point against Auger-Aliassime, while he converted 2 of 9 break points that he held. He also won 31 of 32 points on his first serve and dropped just 10 of his 50 service points in the entire match for an easy 6-4, 6-4 victory.

It was a second straight match when Coric wasn’t broken. He was broken once each by Musetti and Nadal.

A two-time champion on the tour from seven finals, Coric will be looking to reach a second Masters final. He finished runner-up in Shanghai in 2018 and was also a semifinalist in Indian Wells that year.

Norrie v Coric Prediction and Tip

Norrie has been in great touch throughout the year and he will be the favourite on Saturday despite Coric’s brilliant form in the tournament. Expect this one to go down the wire with Norrie advancing.
