Petra Kvitova v Caroline Garcia Head to Head

There have been six previous meetings between these two players over the years and Kvitova leads 4-2 on head to head. Add a couple of Billie Jean King matches and that tally changes to 5-3 in Kvitova’s favour.

On hard court surfaces, it’s 3-2 for Kvitova with Garcia having won their previous Cincinnati Open encounter in 2015.

Kvitova Scrapes Past Keys

It needed Kvitova some time before she could unlock the doors to the final with Keys making life difficult for the former Wimbledon winner.

Kvitova was on court for two hours and 25 minutes before winning 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-3, in a match that saw the Czech slowly exerting her control over her opponent.

Keys was 3-1 up in the first set before Kvitova broke back but in the tie-breaker that followed, the American always had a slight edge. It was from the second onward, Kvitova turned things around as she broke her opponent twice and then proceeded to do the same in the third set too.

In previous rounds, Kvitova had already overcome the likes of Jil Teichmann, Sorana Cirstea and Ons Jabeur before her easy win over Ajla Tomljanovic to take her to the semifinal. Can she win her first ever title in Cincinnati?

Garcia Slams the Door on Sabalenka

Aryna Sabalenka hasn’t had the best of seasons but having reached the semifinal of this competition in Cincinnati, she would have garnered enough confidence coming up against a 35th-ranked player.

Instead, it was Garcia who stopped her Belarusian opponent at her heels, registering a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win in exactly two hours of a tussle.

Garcia, who has already won a couple of WTA titles this season, having showed renewed form, emerged an early leader in the encounter with a break of serve in the fourth game and then added another one in the eighth.

Five successive breaks of serves in the second set allowed Sabalenka to take the edge but there was no looking back for Garcia in the third once she had broken her opponent in the fourth game. She completed the win by saving three break-points.

Having defeated Maria Sakkari, Elise Mertens and Jessica Pegula earlier as well, Garcia will hope she can continue this run forward.

Kvitova v Garcia Prediction and Tip

While Kvitova starts off a favourite here, Garcia has already downed three match favourites in this competition and looks a good bet to claim the title at 11/10. Backing the Frenchwoman.
