Bernarda Pera v Eri Hozumi Head to Head

Pera won their only meeting at a lower level tournament in 2017.

Pera in Red-Hot Form

Bernarda Pera has been in sensational form recently.

The 27-year-old American won back-to-back titles in July, triumphing in Budapest and Hamburg. The World no. 51 hasn’t played at a tour-level event since then, but she did feature in the WTA 125K in Concord, U.S. last week, reaching the final of the hard court event, only to finish runner-up to CoCo Vandeweghe.

Pera, who was ranked No. 93 at the start of the season, soon fell out of the top 100 and slid to 130 in the second week of July, but thanks to her consecutive clay court titles, she climbed back the rankings and last week touched a career-high ranking of 49.

Pera had reached another WTA 125 final this year in Karlsruhe, finishing runner-up in the clay-court tournament.

Overall, she is 29-15 across levels this year and 6-5 on hard courts. She had a sensational 21-7 run on clay. Can she replicate that form on hard in Cleveland?

Hozumi Qualifies For First Main Draw in 2022

Eri Hozumi is a terrific doubles player, but has tasted very little success in singles.

The Japanese qualified for her first Tour-level event of the season with a comeback win over Iryna Shymanovich. Hozumi, who featured in WTA 125 events in Saint Malo and Makarska, beat the Belarusian 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the second qualifying round on Sunday.

The 28-year-old, winner of five ITF titles, had beaten China’s Han Xinyun 6-4, 6-2 in the first qualifying round.

Ranked 591 in singles, Hozumi is World No. 38 in doubles. She was the 2018 doubles runner-up with compatriot Makoto Ninomiya at Roland Garros and has won three WTA titles with the latter this year. Among them are titles in Adelaide, Morocco and Bad Homburg. The pair had also won a WTA 125 event in Saint Malo.

Pera v Hozumi Prediction and Tip

This is expected to be an easy outing for Pera, who should make quick work of the Japanese.
