Alize Cornet v Clara Tauson Head to Head

While it was Cornet who stalled Iga Swiatek’s brilliant run on the circuit earlier this season, her overall form this year hasn’t been much to beckon.
The world number 37 had won just two of the last five matches she had played coming into this tournament, and while she was a favourite starting out here against Dayana Yastremska, that was more to do with how poorly her opponent had gone about her business.
Cornet, however, did not waste a lot of time in getting past Yastremska, winning 6-2, 6-1 in a match that lasted a mere hour and 12 minutes.
She faced just one break-point in the entire encounter while Yastremska faced 13 of them and was broken five times.
Cornet, who last won back to back matches in a hard court competition way back at the Australian Open in January – and she had reached the quarterfinal there – will hope she can repeat that here as well.

Tauson Tames Tan
Much like Cornet, Tauson was on court for very little time in her straight-set win over Harmony Tan in the first round.
The Dane, who had failed to qualify for the Cincinnati Open last week, registered a 6-3, 6-1 victory in an hour and 17 minutes to set up this meeting with Cornet.
Facing a couple of break-points, Tauson was broken once in the opening set but by then she had already raced off to a 5-2 lead. She broke right back to clinch the set, and then added a couple more breaks of serves in the second set to complete the victory.
Tauson’s best showing in hard court competitions this year came early in the year – at the Melbourne Summer Set and Australian Open where she won successive matches before losing the third.
