Maxime Cressy lost the two final matches he played and he is looking to bounce back in strong fashion in Winston-Salem. The losses to Monfils in Montreal and Botic van de Zandschulp in Cincinnati are not terrible but he’s also expected to be more way competitive than he was in those ones.
The US Open is around the corner and many expected great things from the American. It’s been a pretty strong year overall with 29 wins and 22 losses and his maiden trophy in Newport. The score on hard courts is 13-9 which is good enough but his form has been rather shaky lately.
Players are starting out how to play him and he is yet to find a good adjustment. A serve and volley game is extremely rare in this era of tennis but he makes it work for the most part. It’s mostly a confidence issue lately but he can only overcome that by playing and winning matches.

Duckworth Surprises Kokkinakis
Not many expected James Duckworth to defeat Thanasi Kokkinakis when they met in round one of Winston-Salem but he did just that. Not only was it a great win, it was also a comeback win for the Australian with the final set coming in a close tiebreak.
Duckworth is a solid tennis players but he hasn’t been playing good in a while. He lost four matches before beating Kokkinakis and some of them were against players you would not consider ATP talent. Overall he’s only 9-15 on the year as he didn’t play much making this victory even more impressive.
It came thanks to some persistence and solid serving. Duckworth won’t outhit many players but he is quite pesky in rallies and can give you problems if you allow him. A very strong hard-court player generally he could find himself in a deep run here as players look ahead to New York.
Cressy v Duckworth Prediction and Tip
Cressy is favoured to win this match for many factors however it will be far from easy. Neither is playing that well at the moment but Duckworth has the benefit of finding some confidence in the win against Kokkinakis while the American has yet to get there. Tough to call but certainly a very close match.
