31-year-old Canadian Rebecca Marino is enjoying playing in Quebec as she is set to compete in her second quarterfinal on the WTA Tour this month. Her last such stint was in the Citi Open where she reached the elite eight as a qualifier but fell to Daria Saville.
This time, she began directly in the main draw and dispatched the likes of Victoria Vanessa Mboko and the third seed Jasmine Paolini in straight sets.
With these wins, Marino has improved her record for the season to 38-17, with a significant proportion of those wins coming in the qualifying rounds and the ITF tournaments.
So far in 2022, Rebecca has three ITF finals to her name – all on hard courts. Now ranking World No. 112, she has been working quite hard and has got a fair bit of momentum to her game.

Kostyuk Moves Past Stakusic
Marta Kostyuk found herself in a rather surprising three-setter with the Canadian qualifier Marina Stakusic but ultimately prevailed 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-1.
The number 10 seed defeated Tamara Zidansek in the opener in straight sets to get things started.
It has been a rather slow year for the #72-ranked Kostyuk, whose tally now stands at 21-14. While most of her season has gone by in early defeats, there have been a few instances where she has performed.
Most notably, Marta reached the third round in Eastbourne and the round of 32 in Cincinnati – as a qualifier. She also featured in the third round at the Australian Open.
Kostyuk v Marino Prediction and Tip
The match can swing either way; Marino boasts of a far superior pedigree and experience whereas Kostyuk has had a slow year and may find herself a bit out of her element.
On a safer side, the match has all the makings of seeing a fair number of games as neither of them is likely to go down easy.
