World No. 49 Sara Sorribes Tormo’s best Grand Slam performance came last year when she reached the third round of the U.S. Open.
The Spaniard, who is 23-16 overall this season, will be making her sixth US Open appearance. She lost in the first round of the first three tournaments, before reaching the second ro0und in 2020 and the Round of 32 last year.
This year, Sorribes Tormo’s best result came in Palermo last month, where she was a semifinalist. Most recently, the 25-year-old has played three tournaments during the North American swing. She reached the second rounds in Toronto and Cleveland and lost in the first round in Cincinnati.
Sorribes Tormo, who has made five quarterfinal exits this season, will be hoping to start off the U.S. Open on bright note. She is a better player than her first round opponent, has also been consistent and has produced better results. She is expected to begin with a win and that will pit her against either Shelby Rogers or Arantxa Rus in Round 2.

Kuzmova Comes Through Qualifiers
World No. 109 Viktoria Kuzmova has qualified for her fifth U.S. Open main draw.
The 24-year-old Slovak player has lost in the opening round in all four of her previous appearances.
A former World No. 27, Kuzmova ousted Austria’s Julia Grabher, Germany’s Nastasja Maria Schunk and Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova, in the first, second and third qualifying rounds respectively, to reach the main draw. Kuzmova dominated all the three matches, winning them in straight sets.
Overall Kuzmova is 26-16 this season, including qualifiers and lower level tournaments. She has reached the final and a semifinal at the ITF level this year, but is yet to achieve something big on the tour-level this year.
