Rebecca Marino is playing in the main draw of the US Open for the fourth time. Her appearances have been limited after taking multiple breaks from tennis in the last decade.
The Canadian big server seems to be enjoying her tennis again and is well on course to return to the top 100 in the next few months.
Marino began the season by reaching three successive finals in the ITF circuit and lifting the title in Arcadia. Her biggest breakthroughs have been on North American soil where she made the quarterfinals in Washington as a qualifier and defeated seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams and Andrea Petkovic.
The 31-year-old carried that form to the WTA Granby tournament where she also reached the last eight, losing to Marta Kostyuk in three sets.

Frech Makes Second Main Draw Appearance
Magdalena Frech, for her part, will be appearing in the main draw of the US Open for just the second time. The 24-year-old was beaten in the qualifying rounds at last year’s edition and overall did not qualify at any Grand Slam tournament in 2021.
Things seem to be moving on the right trajectory this year, with Frech scoring a major upset in the first round of Wimbledon over Italy’s Camila Giorgi and going on to make the third round.
Overall, the World No. 104 is 9-16 and has won 20 sets from 56. Those numbers do not stick up so well in the grand scheme of things and certainly if she is to make an impression at Flushing Meadows.
However, Frech will take heart from her two wins over Rebecca Marino on hard courts that she can replicate that sort of performance to reach the second round.
