Alex de Minaur v Cristian Garin Head to Head

De Minaur leads 3-1. He won the first contest at the U.S. Open in 2019, then at Indian Wells last year and in Eastbourne this year. Garin won their most recent matchup at the Wimbledon this year.

De Minaur Overcomes Krajinovic

World No. 20 Alex de Minaur needed exactly two hours to dump out Serbia’s Filip Krajinovic in the first round of the U.S. Open on Monday.

The Australian had a tough start, having to come back from a break down thrice in the opening set. He however got a fourth break in the final game to seal the first set.

The 23-year-old looked far more comfortable in the second set as he broke the Serb twice to build a two-sets-to-love lead. Krajinovic started the third set with a break of serve, but De Minaur soon took charge and broke his opponent two more times in the match to seal the contest 7-5, 6-2, 6-3.

A quarterfinalist in 2020, De Minaur was knocked out in the opening round last year. He will be relieved to have started with a win this year and improved his U.S. Open record to 10-5.

De Minaur has been a consistent player throughout the year and recently won the Atlanta Open title for his sixth title of his career.

Garin Bounces Back to Beat Lehecka

Cristian Garin lost the first set on Monday, but rallied to win the next three to beat the Czech Republic’s Jiri Lehecka in the first round.

The Chilean was on the verge of falling 0-2 behind after Lehecka had built a 2-5 lead in the second set, but the World No. 82 clawed his way back by winning the second set in the tiebreak and then stamped his authority over the next two sets to win the three hour and seven minute contest 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5, 6-1.

Garin is making his fourth appearance at the U.S. Open and for the fourth consecutive time he has made it to the second round. Now the challenge is for him to reach the third round at Flushing Meadows for the first time.

The 26-year-old has been inconsistent this season as a result of which he has seen a significant decline in the rankings.

However, Garin reached his first major quarterfinal at Wimbledon this year. He will look to draw inspiration from that performance and build on the start that he has got at the U.S. Open.

De Minaur v Garin Prediction and Tip

Garin bounced back from two sets down to win their most recent battle to reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. That also ended De Minaur’s perfect record against the Chilean.

Garin will feel a lot more confident going into this one against the Aussie, however, it’s the latter who will still be the favourite and eventually De Minaur should come through in either four or five sets.
