Pedro Cachin defeated Aljaz Bedene in his final US Open match as the Slovenian player is set to in a couple of weeks. It was an interesting match and a huge win for Cachin who needed to prove to himself that he can win matches on hard courts.
A very successful year for him so far has been mostly highlighted by superb performances on clay but he needs to evolve his game if he hopes to continue his rise. A good start was made here and a bit of luck in the draw gives him another strong chance.
A qualifier defeated Taylor Fritz and gave him a chance for the 3rd round but that qualifier will be a tricky player to beat. Having played in 5 sets won’t help Cachin much but he should be able to recover in time to be properly ready for this match.
He served really well against Bedene and that will be key moving forward.

Holt Stuns Fritz
Brandon Holt is the son of former legendary player Tracy Austin so he certainly knows a thing or two about tennis. Nobody expected him to qualify for the US Open but the 24-year-old went beyond that.
He stunned American number one Taylor Fritz in round one of the event shocking the country. Fritz has never played well at the US Open for some reason and it continued this year. What’s even more impressive about this win from Holt is that he lost the opening set but fought back to win it in four.
He was aggressive and attacked but couldn’t quite figure it out early. 6 winners and 24 unforced errors in the first set was a terrible line yet he only lost in the tiebreak. That meant trouble for Fritz and it was.
Hold upped his level, started hitting the ball with consistency and Fritz had no response. He became more nervous and committed too many mistakes ultimately crashing out of the event. The 24-year-old has now a chance to make his mother proud again against Cachin.
Cachin v Holt Prediction and Tip
This is a very interesting matchup and both can win. However, I’m going to back the native player because why not? Playing at home should give him the edge.
