This will be their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Putintseva Upsets Anisimova

Yulia Putintseva enjoyed a good start to her US Open 2022 campaign as she upset the home favourite Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 19 minutes.

The Kazakh was the superior player in every regard – she committed just 16 unforced errors compared to Anisimova’s 36 and dished out 18 winners. The 27-year-old also enjoyed a superior service game.

Yulia arrived in New York with a mixed bag of results – a couple of first-round losses in Cincinnati and Cleveland – that ended up undoing her quarterfinal result in the Rogers Cup.

Now ranking World No. 38, Putintseva has had a couple of semifinal runs in 2022, although they all came on the clay courts in Istanbul and Budapest.

That said, she did reach the quarterfinal here at Flushing Meadows in 2020. This time around, she is poised to make it to the fourth round at the very least.

Niemeier Upsets Kenin

Jule Niemeier reached round two after a straight-set 7-6(3), 6-4 win over Sofia Kenin in the opener. The 23-year-old German added to the miseries of the struggling American by handing her yet another loss on her home turf.

With this, Jule has posted her best results in the US major and now looks to go further. This will be difficult as the current World No. 108 hasn’t got a strong hard-court pedigree.

That said, she is 31-17 this season – backed by a Challenger title in Makarska, an ITF title in Zagreb (both on clay), and a scintillating quarterfinal result in Wimbledon where she upset Anett Kontaveit en route.

As for her form on hard courts, it is not as impressive. Niemeier is just 8-8, with a first-round appearance in St. Petersburg Trophy as a qualifier being her sole high point.

Putintseva v Niemeier Prediction and Tip

This match is Putintseva’s to lose; she is experienced and, more importantly, better suited for hard court events than her German counterpart.

Tip: Putintseva to win in straight sets: 13/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
