Rebecca Marino v Shuai Zhang Head to Head

Qualifier Daria Snigur had dumped Simona Halep out of the competition in the first round and Marino took full toll of the former Grand Slam winner’s absence as her second round opponent.
Marino, who had made it to the third round at a Grand Slam only once before in her career, registered a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win over Snigur in a match lasting an hour and 17 minutes.
Having defeated Magdalena Frech in two sets in her opener, Marino raced to a 3-0 lead in the opening set against Snigur. Snigur looked to level things out with a break back in the fifth game but Marino broke right back to go 4-2 up.
She wrapped up the set soon after.
In the second, it was Marino who drew first blood again but as she prepared to serve for the match at 5-4, she was broken. Marino, however, still held the upper hand as she wrapped things up in the following tie-breaker to enter the third round.

Zhang Continues Form Build-Up
Zhang has had her moments in hard court tournaments in the past, having also made it to the third round at US Open on three previous occasions. This time around she has a realistic chance of a maiden round of 16 appearance at Flushing Meadows as she takes on a player ranked outside the top 100 in this match.
And the Chinese player got to the third round with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, in a match lasting an hour and 27 minutes.
Having shocked Jil Teichmann in straight sets in her opener as well, Zhang came into this one with a lot more confidence too. While there were two exchanges of breaks in the very first set, Zhang held her nerve and found herself converting the first of three break-points at 6-5.
With Zhang’s confidence ticking further up and Schmiedlova unable to maintain her levels, the second set proved to be a cakewalk for the Chinese.
