Liudmila Samsonova v Aleksandra Krunic Head to Head

Liudmila Samsonova (just like Krunic) has completely shaken up the eighth quarter of the women’s singles bracket in this year’s US Open.
In round two, she dispatched the reigning US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez 6-3, 7-6(3) in an hour and 47 minutes. Samsonova was on point in every regard as she dished out 10 aces, won 83% of the points behind the first serve, and had 30 winners.
This victory follows her straight-set rout of Sara Bejlek in the opener.
Given that Samsonova had arrived in New York with a remarkable build-up to the tournament – two titles from the Washington Open and Cleveland Open – it is not surprising to see her retain that same flair here. The 23-year-old Russian, who is now ranked #35, is on a 12-match win streak.
With this, Liudmila has also turned around her bleak first half of the season, where her best results included a semifinal run in Stuttgart and a fourth-round appearance at Indian Wells.

Krunic Stuns Krejcikova
World No. 96 Aleksandra Krunic also had quite an eventful Wednesday as she took out the doubles prodigy, former World No. 2 Barbora Krejcikova, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 in a little under two hours.
It was a close game in many regards with Krejcikova boasting a superior first-service win rate and a respectable number of winners. However, Krunic sailed through with a lower unforced error count (32 vs. 38) and a higher break-point conversion rate.
With this win, Aleksandra has posted her best Grand Slam results in four years. But whether she can go further is an entirely different story.
Her season highlights include a clay court runner-up feat in Budapest and doubles final feats in Cleveland and Eastbourne.
The 29-year-old is now 17-20 – with hardly any single form on hard courts to show for.
