Victoria Azarenka v Petra Martic Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2012 Linz Open where Azarenka had defeated Martic in straight sets.

Azarenka had been taken to three sets in her first round here by American teenager Ashyln Krueger but faced no such issues in the second against Marta Kostyuk.
The former Grand Slam winner was on court for an hour and 29 minutes in her 6-2, 6-3 drubbing of Kostyuk that took her to the third round for the third year in a row.
The Belarusian number two started off rather well, breaking Kostyuk twice in the first set to run through her and repeated the same in the second as well to take a 4-0 lead.
With the match looking all but pocketed, Azarenka stumbled a tad as she lost her serve on two occasions before breaking Kostyuk one more time to seal the encounter.
This follows Azarenka’s quarterfinal appearance at the Washington Open and a second round defeat at the Cincinnati Open before this. Can she now make it three wins in a row for the first time since her fourth round appearance at the Australian Open earlier this year?

Martic Sends Badosa Packing
Fourth seeded Paula Badosa became another high seeded player to fall in the second round and it was Petra Martic’s grittiness that took care of the Spaniard.
Martic, who had played out a gruelling two-setter against Varvara Gracheva in the first round, overcame an opening tie-breaker loss to win 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-2 in two hours and seven minutes.
Having made it to the fourth round at the US Open on two prior occasions, Martic hammered 10 aces and won 78% of her first serve points and a whopping 65% of the second serves to blank her opponent in the last two sets.
So powerful was Martic’s serving she wasn’t broken even once in the match.

Azarenka doesn’t have much form going her way but she does rise to the occasion in Grand Slam tennis and should make her a favourite here. Martic’s fighting qualities means this could go to a third.
