Aryna Sabalenka found herself in a demanding match with the Estonian Kaia Kanepi in round two. The match went on for a little over two hours and saw the Belarusian bag the win with 2-6, 7-6(8), 6-4. It was a close affair by all means – Sabalenka made more unforced errors and struck fewer winners than Kanepi, but as luck would have it, it was Sabalenka’s day.
She may breathe easy now that she is poised to play a relatively easier opponent in Clara Burel – much akin to Catherine Harrison, whom she beat in round one here in straight sets.
Now ranking World No. 6, Sabalenka enjoyed a decent US Open swing with a semifinal run in Cincinnati and a quarterfinal appearance in San Jose. Earlier in the season, she was the runner-up in Stuttgart and Den Bosch.
With 17 WTA career finals to her name and a semifinal feat in New York last year, the 24-year-old will fancy her chances of such a run again this time.

Burel Continues to Impress
21-year-old Clara Burel faces her toughest test yet in the US Open 2022. In the opener, she beat the Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in straight sets and followed it with a three-set win over Alison Van Uytvanck in round two.
In the qualifying rounds, her journey entailed wins over Seone Mendez, Arianne Hartono, and Misaki Doi.
This litany of wins also means that the current World No. 131 has won the most matches in any tournament this year. Her tally now stands at 14-20 and before this, her previous best run was reaching the quarterfinal in Makarska Challenger.
Sabalenka v Burel Prediction and Tip
Sabalenka may have seen her fair share of shocking losses but it is hard to imagine her losing to Burel – especially considering the overall track record and career trajectories of the two players.
This match should end in a straight-set win for the seeded star.
