Caroline Garcia v Alison Riske-Amritraj Head to Head

Riske-Amritraj leads 3-0 over Garcia; they last met in the 2022 WTA Nottingham Open, where the American won in straight sets.

Garcia Tames Andreescu

Caroline Garcia fired warning shots in her round three win over the Canadian youngster Bianca Andreescu, beating the hard-hitter 6-3, 6-2 in 88 minutes.

Despite committing more unforced errors than Andreescu, Garcia sailed through with 31 winners (to her opponents’ 11) and a highly superior first-service win rate.

This also marks the first time that Caroline has made it to the fourth round in the US Open. With this, the 28-year-old Frenchwoman is 38-15 – armed with a title each from all three turfs in 2022.

She won the Bad Homburg Open, Poland Open, and most recently, the Cincinnati Open (as a qualifier).

Garcia’s rise to prominence included wins over Maria Sakkari, Petra Martic, Elise Mertens, Jessica Pegula, Aryna Sabalenka, Petra Kvitova, and Iga Swiatek.

With her recent win streak, Caroline has also turned around her uneventful first half of the season, where her best result was a sole semifinal run in WTA Lyon.

Alison, Thriving at Home

World No. 29 Alison Riske-Amritraj has made it to the fourth round at the Flushing Meadows – for the first time since 2013.

She found herself in precarious matches – starting with a straightforward straight-set win over Eleana Yu and then, a three-set slogfest with Camila Osorio – ending in 6-4, 6-7(5), 7-6(5). Alison could have ended the Osorio match much sooner, but the Colombian saved four match points in the final set to drag it to the tiebreak.

Her next opponent was Xiyu Wang, whom she beat 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

The 32-year-old has had a mixed season so far – while she was the runner-up in Adelaide and Nottingham, she also lost early in quite a few tournaments.

That said, the fact remains that Riske-Amritraj is a formidable opponent who is well-experienced. Her build-up for the US Open included mid-round appearances in Toronto and Cincinnati.
