Coco Gauff v Shuai Zhang Head to Head

18-year-old American Cori Coco Gauff stormed into the fourth round at the US Open without dropping a set.
Her most recent opponent was Madison Keys, whom she tamed with absolute ease 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and 14 minutes. While Gauff had just seven winners, she did benefit from Keys’ 22 unforced errors and an inferior service game.
In the preceding matches, Gauff made quick work of Leolia Jeanjean (6-2, 6-3) and Elena-Gabriela Ruse (6-2, 7-6(4)).
Gauff is currently the World No. 12, and her tally now stands at 33-16. Her recent results include consecutive quarterfinal appearances in Toronto and San Jose, a semifinal result in Berlin, and the historic French Open runner-up feat.
Cori has also got five doubles finals to her name in 2022 – including her recent title run in the Canadian Open with Jessica Pegula.
All in all, she may still be a teenager, but her pedigree is comparable to plenty of veteran stars on the circuit.

Zhang, Looking Confident
World No. 36, 33-year-old Chinese Shuai Zhang is set to compete in her first fourth-round singles match at the US Open.
She has been competing here since 2007 – just three years after Gauff was born – and it took her a long time to make it this far. Like her young counterpart, she too is yet to drop a set and has beaten Jil Teichmann, Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, and Rebecca Marino.
Shuai enjoyed a decent build-up to the major with back-to-back quarterfinal runs in Cincinnati and Cleveland. She was the winner in Lyon Open and runner-up in Birmingham – a feat that helped her stay afloat in the top 50. Her tally now stands at 31-22.
On the doubles circuit, Zhang has been absolutely superb with four finals – including the Wimbledon with Elise Mertens.
This encounter with Coco will be a great one to watch – Zhang’s experience and pedigree will be tested by Gauff’s energy and exceptional skills.
