Ons Jabeur v Caroline Garcia Head to Head

Jabeur leads by 2-0; they last met in the 2020 Australian Open round of 64 where she won 1-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Jabeur, Making History in New York

Ons Jabeur is on cloud nine after reaching the semifinal in the US Open 2022. With this, she has become the first African and Arab female player to make it this far at the Flushing Meadows.

The win came after she dismantled Ajla Tomljanovic 6-4, 7-6(4) to further cement her position as one of the elites on the WTA Tour.

Currently in the form of her life, Ons has hardly been tested in New York as she easily swept aside Madison Brengle, Elizabeth Mandlik, and Veronika Kudermetova – in straight sets. The Tunisian faced some resistance in round three against Shelby Rogers but overcame that 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Having fallen just one win short of a historic Wimbledon title this summer, Jabeur has done well to take the positives from that runner-up experience.

Admittedly, doubts surrounded her form as she fell in the opening stages in San Jose, Toronto, and Cincinnati – but she managed to turn it around in the last 10 days.

With this, Jabeur now stands at 43-13 in 2022 – supported by two singles titles from the German Open and Madrid Open – and finals in Charleston, Rome, and London.

Amidst these wins, the 28-year-old has beaten a handful of big names like Coco Gauff, Belinda Bencic, Maria Sakkari, Simona Halep, Daria Kasatkina, and Jessica Pegula. Clearly, Garcia should not prove to be that big a problem for her – at least on paper.

Garcia Cruising High on Momentum

Caroline Garcia is now on a 13-match win streak – starting all the way from the qualifiers in the Cincinnati Open (resulting in the biggest WTA singles title of her career) – followed by the semifinal feat in NY. This is her first such appearance in the singles Grand Slam.

The World No. 17 is having a record season with 40-15 as of Tuesday night. This is trailing behind her career-best season in 2017 (48-22), leading to her becoming a part of the top 10 for a while.

Garcia has not dropped a single set at the Flushing Meadows this tournament. Her wins came against Kamilla Rakhimova, Anna Kalinskaya, Bianca Andreescu, Alison Riske-Amritraj, and Coco Gauff.

Caro is undoubtedly in a menacing form – something that has been long in the making.

Her breakthrough moments started brewing in the summer when she won the Bad Homburg Open and Poland Open. Garcia struggled to move past the opening rounds in most tournaments until then.

Caroline is highly experienced and boasts of a rich pedigree in singles and doubles – having won the French Open with Kristina Mladenovic in June.

She is well-poised to put up a good fight with Jabeur and can very well reach the final.
