Aslan Karatsev v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head

39th-ranked Karatsev leads 64th-ranked Sonego 3-0 in their head-to-head, winning their most recent match at the Bastad Open two months ago.

Karatsev Could Exit Top 50

Even with an ATP title under his belt this year, Aslan Karatsev is still sitting perilously close to a top 50 exit. If it happens, it would be the first time since his astonishing breakthrough run at the 2021 Australian Open that Karatsev will be ranked outside the half-cenutiron club.

Bar his title-winning run in Syndey at the turn of the year, Karatsev has been a shadow of the player that took the men’s tour by storm in Melbourne last season. The pressure of defending a mammoth number of points proved too much to bear.

He has also hit by an alleged match-fixing scandal just after Wimbledon, claims which he strongly denies. Karatsev is 15-23 for the season which pales in comparison to last season’s record.

The Russian power hitter squandered a two-sets-to-love lead against Fabio Fognini in the first round of the US Open – a defeat he will need to shake off quickly when he makes his Moselle bout.

Sonego Suffers US Open Heartbreak

It wasn’t Karatsev alone who was handing out gifts on the tea-tray at the US Open, but Lorenzo Sonego was one of very few players who completely lost control of their US Open first-round match.

The Italian big server was cruising in his opening match against the hard grafting Jordan Thompson of Australia, taking the first two sets by dropping only three games. But things began to unravel slowly at the start of the third set as Sonego’s movement was significantly impacted by cramps.

By the time Thompson served for the match, Sonego could barely move his limbs and he was helped off the court by his opponent and a trainer. Sonego has since taken sufficient rest time to recharge his batteries, and not taking part in Italy’s Davis Cup team.

Karatsev v Sonego Prediction and Tip

It has been a train wreck of a season for Karatsev, but I think he might still salvage something out of it. He has never lost to Sonego in three meetings and should be favorite to keep his undefeated streak against the Italian intact.

Tip: Karatsev to win: 7/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
