Qinwen Zheng v Misaki Doi Head to Head

This will be their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Zheng, a Force to be Reckoned With

19-year-old Qinwen Zheng started her season outside the top 120. She is now the World No. 37 – career-best for her – and by the looks of it, she is slated to move up a lot further.

The Chinese teenager has performed brilliantly in her last three Grand Slams – reaching the fourth round in the French Open and the third round in the Wimbledon and US Open. Zheng was also a quarterfinalist in the Canadian Open.

Over these tournaments, she has performed superbly to beat several big names like Bianca Andreescu, Ons Jabeur, Jelena Ostapenko, Sloane Stephens, Simona Halep, Vera Zvonareva, and Nuria Parrizas Diaz. Apart from this, Qinwen also won the ITF Orlando and Valencia Challenger.

Zheng is now at an incredible 32-15 and is pegged as a rising star. Clearly, Doi should not prove to be too big a challenge for her.

Doi, Struggling with Form

Misaki Doi may have the home advantage here, but that will not be of much help.

Her record is 8-19; her single best run came in the Adelaide International, where she was a semifinalist. Since then, the 31-year-old has lost in the opening rounds – including the US Open most recently, where she succumbed in the final qualifying match to Clara Burel.

Compared to Zheng, Doi has a fairly better pedigree with three WTA finals (the last one was in September 2019). Interestingly, that last WTA trophy came in WTA Hiroshima, where she lost to Nao Hibino in the final match. In the same tournament, she won the doubles with Hibino.

But keeping in mind her recent form woes, Doi faces the Herculean task of moving forward.

Zheng v Doi Prediction and Tip

Expect no surprises here. Given the current form that Zheng is in, she should do well to win this one in straight sets.
