Badosa Needs Form Turnaround

The pressure would squarely be on Badosa coming into this tournament after the world number four has struggled in recent times to get some of the results going.

In fact, since the Miami Open in March, Badosa has won three matches in a row on just one occasion – a result that saw her reach the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Other than that, there have been opening defeats in Toronto and Cincinnati and even at the US Open that followed, Badosa was left licking her wounds with a second round defeat to Petra Martic.

This wasn’t always the case for Badosa this year, especially not in hard court competitions having started the season as a title winner in Sydney, and reached the semifinal at the Indian Wells Open. In more recent times, however, Badosa has fallen on bad form and will look to turn things around.

Can she start off with a solid showing against a tricky opponent?

Zheng Dispatches Doi

While Badosa had a first round bye, Zheng was required to get past local player Misaki Doi to reach the second round. And she did it in fine style, winning in just 80 minutes.

Zheng, who has reached a career-high ranking of 36th in the world, carved out a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Doi, with four breaks of serves punctuating the encounter for the world number 36.

The only time that Zheng did face some trouble was when she ran off to a 5-2 lead in the second set but was broken as she served for the match. The second time she got that opportunity, Zheng managed to kill off the encounter easily.

This followed a third round appearance at the US Open and a quarterfinal in Toronto. Can Zheng continue in the same vein?

Badosa v Zheng Prediction and Tip

While Badosa is 9/20 to win this, one cannot help but think that Zheng will put up a strong showing and might even cause an upset. Backing the Chinese player to carve out a shock victory.
