Basilashvili’s Poor Run of Form

Basilashvili has not won a match since his second round victory at Wimbledon at the end of June.

Since then he has suffered six straight defeats, including all three matches he played on American soil, including at the US Open where he was beaten in straight sets by a Chinese qualifier, ranked almost one places below him in the world.

He has not played since, and will be hoping that the break has rejuvenated him, and can rediscover the form that saw him reach the final in Qatar back in February, and has earned him five career titles.

The Georgian needs to finish the year strongly to ensure that his world ranking does not suffer too much after what has been a largely disappointing year.

Bergs Wins All Dutch Qualifier

Bergs has had a successful year on the Challenger circuit, winning his maiden title in Ilkley in June on grass, and reaching three more finals, the last of which was in Mallorca last month.

In the qualifying competition here in France he faced a familiar foe in the form of fellow Dutchman Gijs Brouwer, the man who qualified for the US Open for the first time this year.

It was Bergs who made the batter start and the odd  service break in three was enough to earn him the first set. One break of serve in the second, though, was enough for Brouwer to level the match.

But an early break put Bergs in control of the third set, and he was able to consolidate his advantage to win the match.

Basilashvili v Bergs Prediction and Tip

Despite his recent poor form, Basilashvili will start the favourite because of his superior experience at this level. Bergs may not make it easy for him, but, at this stage, a win of any sort will be most welcome to the Georgian.
