Tseng Chun-hsin v Christopher O’Connell Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before on the ATP tour, although they did meet on clay on the junior tours in 2019 in Italy, O’Connell winning in three sets.

Taiwan Number One Tseng

The highest ranked Taiwanese player on the ATP tour, Tseng reached a career high standing last month, although he has dropped back slightly since then.

A former junior world number one, who won the both the French Open and Wimbledon Boys’ Singles title, he has never quite replicated that form on the senior tour, although he has won seven Challenger titles, the most recent of which was in April on clay, his favourite surface.

He made his Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open this year as a wildcard, and has now appeared in all four Grand Slams this year, without getting beyond the first round in any of them.

Tseng has recently been beaten in the second round of a Challenger tournament in Poland.

San Diego Semi-Finalist O’Connell

O’Connell has also enjoyed success on the Challenger tour this year, winning an event in Croatia, and finishing runner-up in Porto.

And, by the time that he faces Tseng, his world ranking is likely to have been boosted because he is still involved in the tournament in San Diego, where he has reached the last four, and is set to face Brandon Nakashima of the USA for a place in Sunday’s final.

That represents his best showing on the main tour this year.

His previous best came back at the start of the year when he reached the third round of his home Grand Slam in Australia, beating Diego Schwartzman in the process.

Tseng v O’Connell Prediction and Tip

Much may depend on O’Connell’s powers of recovery after travelling halfway round the world from San Diego to Seoul. If he can pick himself up in time, then me may rate his chances against an opponent who prefers clay.

Tip: O’Connell to win: 7/9 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
