Sonego has won all three of their meetings on the tour.

Bublik has won a match against the Italian but that was at the lower level.

Bublik Advances As Wawrinka Retires

World no. 44 Alexander Bublik moved into his third final of the season after his semifinal opponent Stan Wawrinka was forced to retire after just three games in the first set on Saturday.

The 25-year-old, who won his maiden ATP title by beating Alexander Zverev in the final in Montpellier earlier this year, was also a finalist in Newport, but he went down to Maxime Cressy in the title clash.

The Kazakh player had won all three of his previous matches in the tournament in three sets, however, the semifinal lasted just three games as the former World no. 3 Wawrinka was forced to retire while trailing 1-2 in the match.

Bublik, who will be playing in his seventh ATP final on Sunday, has improved to 28-22 this season. In Metz, he had begun his campaign with a 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over French qualifier Evan Furness and then he followed that with another come-from-behind win in the second round, beating Emil Ruusuvuori 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-3.

In the quarterfinal on Friday, Bublik had knocked out the fourth seed Holger Rune 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. Can Bublik beat Sonego for the first time on the tour on Sunday and win a second tour-level title?

Sonego Knocks Out the Defending Champion

Lorenzo Sonego knocked out the second seed Hubert Hurkacz in the semifinal on Saturday and moved into the fifth tour-level final of his career.

The World no. 65 who had gone into the contest with a superior head to head record against the World no. 10, extended his lead to 3-1 on the tour and 4-2 overall with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory.

Sonego won 84% points on his first serve and didn’t face a single break point in the match. In contrast, Hurkacz won just 72% points on his first delivery. Neither player had a break point in the first set, which the Italian won in the tiebreak. In the second, Sonego held the only break point of the match and he converted it to end Hurkacz’s unbeaten run in Metz, which began last year, when he went on to claim the title.

Sonego improved to 22-24 following Saturday’s win and will be looking to claim his third career title on Sunday. He has not dropped a set so far in this tournament. He began by beating sixth seed Aslan Karatsev and Gilles Simon in the first two rounds respectively and then ousted Sebastian Korda in the quarterfinals on Friday.

After another solid performance on Saturday, he will be hoping to repeat the performance one more time on Sunday.

Bublik v Sonego Prediction and Tip

This is going to be a gripping contest. Sonego will hold the psychological edge having won all three of their previous meetings on the tour and he could extend his perfect record with another win on Sunday
