Claire Liu v Ann Li Head to Head
Li leads 1-0, beating Liu in the 2019 ITF Rancho Santa Fe quarterfinal in straight sets.

22-year-old Claire Liu is set to compete in the Tallinn Open with a singles record of 26-20 and, more importantly, with some momentum.
Liu was visibly struggling on the tour of late as she was beaten in the first round in the Vancouver Challenger, Canadian Open, US Open, and Slovenia Open. She managed to turn it around – in style – in the Japan Open last week.
Claire started off by beating the seventh seed Alison Riske-Amritraj and later, Elise Mertens in straight sets. She ultimately lost to the eventual runner-up Qinwen Zheng.
While most of Liu’s season has gone by in these early losses, there have been a couple of tournaments where she played well. She won the Clarins Open Challenger and followed it with her first WTA singles final in Morocco (losing Martina Trevisan).
As a junior, Liu won the Wimbledon in 2017 – interestingly by beating Ann Li in the final. She is the current World No. 84.

Li Struggling with Form
Ann Li has been in a rut of late as she struggles to deliver results.
The current World No. 62 is 10-13, but more than that, she has not been really active on the tour recently. Her last two tournaments have been the Wimbledon and the US Open, where she lost early to Marie Bouzkova and Camila Osorio respectively.
Expect for a semifinal run in the Melbourne Set 2, there hasn’t really been a single tournament this season where Ann managed to win more than two matches.
Overall, her pedigree is better than Liu’s, with two WTA finals.
Li v Liu Prediction and Tip
Liu has the advantage owing to her recent form. Ann Li may be rusty and will likely need some time to find her bearings. Expect a one-sided affair.
