Tamara Zidansek v Simona Waltert Head to Head

21-year-old Swiss Simona Waltert started the tournament in the qualies and moved past Melania Delai and Maria Carle to reach the main draw.
The two wins have now put her at 33-23, with a singles ranking of World No. 120. She has come a long way since January and is on the path to finishing inside the top 100 by the end of the year.
Her last two tournaments – both Challenger events – ended rather early as she fell in round two. Before that, however, she consistently delivered by reaching the semifinal in ITF Bronx and Landisville and the quarterfinal in WTA Lausanne 250 (beating Danielle Collins in round one). Waltert also won the ITF Amstelveen.
Apart from this, Simona was also a finalist in the Chiasso Open.
While she hasn’t quite managed to carry this momentum onto the big-ticket events, that may change with time and experience.

Zidansek, in a Serious Rut
Just in February, Tamara Zidansek was the World No. 22 – a career-best feat for her. Now, she is #92 and on the verge of slipping out of the top 100.
Her record stands at 12-17 as she looks to add some wins. Her last few attempts were comparatively better as she reached the quarters in the Budapest Challenger and round two in the Slovenia Open.
Before that, Zidansek had lost six of her seven matches on the tour and was in a similar position in the first half of the season.
That said, Tamara did begin on a strong note with a semifinal showing in Adelaide International and a round-three appearance in the Australian Open. On the doubles tour, she did win the Rosmalen Open and reached the final in Lausanne.
Waltert v Zidansek Prediction and Tip
Zidansek is the odds-on favourite, but given her recent form woes, this match may not be as straightforward for her. Expect some resistance from Waltert with a less-likely-but-possible upset on the cards.
