Galfi Makes Quick Work of Andreev

In a solid first round display, Dalma Galfi breezed past Russian qualifier Erika Andreev.

The Hungarian took just and hour and 13 minutes to register a 6-1, 6-2 victory and advance to the next round. Andreev held four break points in the match but Galfi saved all of them. In contrast the World no. 91, had seven chanced to break the Russian’s serve and she capitalised on five of those chances.

The 24-year-old Galfi, who made it to the third round of the U.S. Open, will be aiming to reach a first tour-level quarterfinal of the season.

She reached her first WTA 125 final this year, finishing runner-up at the Contrexéville Open and won and ITF title in Ilkley.

Zanevska Eases Past Eighth Seed

Maryna Zanevska needed an hour and 23 minutes to dispatch eighth seed and local hope Lucia Bronzetti.

The 29-year-old Belgian, who was a semifinalist at the Bucharest Challenger two weeks ago, continued to perform well on clay. She dominated the first set, breaking the Italian four times, while getting broken twice.

In the second set, Bronzetti was the first to break to build a 1-2 lead, but Zanevska rebounded and won the last five games of the set and the match for a 6-3, 6-2 victory.

With the win, the Belgian is now 18-18 this season and will be aiming to reach her third tour-level quarterfinal on Wednesday. Zanevska was a quarterfinalist in Strasbourg and a semifinalist in Hamburg. Can she reach another quarterfinal?
