Vasek Pospisil v Edan Leshem Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before.

This will be the first meeting between the 32 year old American, and the Israeli, seven years his junior.

Pospisil Overcomes Eighth Seed

It is an indication of how poor a season Pospisil has endured to date, that prior to this week, the last match he won on the main tour was when he suffered quarter-final defeat to John Isner in Dallas back in February.

But, having come through two rounds of qualifying in Israel, he set about improving on that record by coming from behind to beat the number eight seed, Tallon Griekspoor, in their first round match.

All that seemed unlikely when, in a first set largely dominated by serve, Griekspoor claimed the only break to secure the advantage.

Pospisil held the only break points against serve in the second set, could not convert either of them, and it went to a tie-break. Twice Giekspoor was a mini-break up, but three consecutive dropped serves allowed the Canadian to level the match.

In the third set, Griekspoor constantly flirted with danger, and had already saved five break points when he was broken finally. Pospisil was able to serve out to love.

New Israeli Number One Leshem

Although he made his ATP debut back in 2017, Leshem had to wait until this week for his maiden win on the main tour, having come through two rounds of qualifying in Tel Aviv just to make the main draw.

There he faced a familiar foe in the shape of compatriot Yshai Oliel, who had begun the tournament as Israel’s top ranked player.

But Leshem took control of the match, almost from the start, with an early break, had further chances to extend his lead, and, although he could not take them, still went on to claim the first set,

Two early breaks in the second set underlined his dominance, and from there he could just cruise to a victory which means he has displaced Oliel now as Israel number one.

Pospisil v Leshem Prediction and Tip

Whilst Leshem will enjoy his new found status, it took him five years to win his first ATP match, and he should not be expected to add another one to his record so soon.

Tip: Pospisil to win: 3/16 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
