Anett Kontaveit v Tereza Martincova Head to Head

Kontaveit leads 2-0; she last beat Martincova in the 2022 Cincinnati Open in three sets.

Kontaveit Digs Deep to Win

Home favourite Anett Kontaveit had to work hard to earn her first-round win in Tallinn. She met Xiyu Wang and fought valiantly to take the match 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, with a 67% first-service win rate.

2022 has been a mediocre year for the Estonian – at least by her standards. She has been struggling with serious form issues due to long Covid, having picked up shortly after the Stuttgart Open.

Until then, Kontaveit had a title run in St. Petersburg and the runner-up silverware from Qatar.

Following the week in Germany, there has been only one tournament where the 26-year-old managed to bag more than two wins in a week – it was the Hamburg European Open, where she was a finalist.

Anett followed it with a quarterfinal exit in Prague, a first-round loss in Toronto and similar early exits in the Cincinnati Open and the US Open. Nonetheless, as the current World No. 4, her chances of going the distance here cannot be undermined.

Martincova Beats Bjorklund

Tereza Martincova is also off to a good start in the competition as she beat Sweden’s Mirjam Bjorklund 7-6(6), 6-3. With that, she is now 20-23 this season and hopes to make up for a sloppy year in Estonia.

Now ranking World No. 75, the Czech is coming off a second-round loss in Portoroz to Elena Rybakina.

Most of her season has gone by in similar defeats, except for a couple of tournaments. The first one was the St. Petersburg Trophy, where she was among the final eight, and the second was in Nottingham, where she reached the semis.

That said, Tereza did reach three doubles finals – the most recent being the Slovenia Open.

Kontaveit v Martincova Prediction and Tip

Kontaveit is the heavy favourite, but Martincova does make for an underdog worth backing, especially considering the form woes of the former. Expect another tight affair here – one that can go to three sets.

Tip: Kontaveit to win, Over 20.5: 11/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
