Maria Sakkari v Danka Kovinic Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Sakkari has won just one. That win came at the 2017 Istanbul Open while Kovinic defeated her at the same tournament the previous year and then overcame the Greek number in the 2018 Shenzhen Open.

There are two ways of looking at Sakkari’s performances in this tournament.
On the one hand, she has made slow starts, struggled in opening sets and lost them on each of the three occasions including to her quarterfinal opponent Maryna Zanevska.
The other side of the story is that for a player who had been going through a rut in more recent times, and for someone who doesn’t quite enjoy playing on clay, Sakkari has done well to not just fight back and win but also make it to the semifinal.
The big question is whether Sakkari can continue to show the same kind of wherewithal as she takes to court for her fourth match in five days, having playing nine sets altogether already.

Kovinic Dispels Paolini Threat
For the second match in a row, Kovinic was a second favourite according to bookmakers and for the second successive time she managed to dispel those odds – and her opponent – to make the last four.
Kovinic was even more ruthless in her quarterfinal win, dispatching Jasmine Paolini 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 36 minutes.
In doing so, Kovinic reached her first semifinal of the season on the WTA tour, and second if one includes one such appearance at the Marbella competition on the WTA 125 circuit.
Can she now use her form on clay – she is 16-8 at all levels on this surface this year – to overpower the Greek number one?
