McDonald Ruing Missed Opportunity in Seoul

McDonald may still be kicking himself after what happened to him in Seoul last week.

He appeared to have a golden opportunity to reach his first semi-final of the year, only to allow it to slip when he was beaten by compatriot and qualifier, Aleksandar Kovacevic, a man ranked 140 places below him in the world.

Now he is running out of time to add some late gloss to what has been a largely disappointing season.

Certainly in comparison with 2021 when he reached his first senior final in Washington and won a Challenger event in Kazakhstan.

Uchida Won First ATP Match Last Week

Uchida, who has been given a wildcard into his home event, has recently reached his highest ever singles ranking.

That has been inspired, to a large extent by his form on the junior tours – he has won eight ITF finals and added two more stepping up to the Challenger level.

Earlier this year, he made his ATP debut as a qualifier in the Los Cabos Open in Mexico, although he lost his first round match there.

However, in Korea last week, he went one better. Handed a wildcard there, he beat another wildcard, Seong Chan Houg, before suffering a second round defeat to the number two seed, Camron Norrie.

McDonald v Uchida Prediction and Tip

McDonald is vastly more experienced on the main tour than Uchida, and, although the Japanese will have home court advantage, that should not be enough to bridge the gap between the two.

Tip: McDonald to win: 5/9 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
