Taro Daniel v Bernabe Zapata Miralles Head to Head

The head-to-head is tied at 1-1, with both matches contested on the clay at Challenger level. On hard courts Daniel should have the upper hand in this matchup.

Daniel Seeks Improvement on Home Soil

Taro Daniel has not been in great form in the past few weeks losing in the second round at his last two tournaments while also exiting the US Open at the first hurdle.

But Daniel’s last four defeats have come against opponents comparatively playing better tennis and ranked higher in the ATP rankings.

He is currently 11-18 at tour level in 2022, putting together his best result on the clay courts of Belgrade (reached the quarterfinals as a qualifier). Despite his underwhelming campaign, Daniel has recorded multiple victories over top 50 opponents including Lorenzo Musetti, Holger Rune, and Sebastian Korda.

He returns to Tokyo for the first time since 2019, the last staging of the tournament before the pandemic. Daniel is a former quarterfinalist at this event, although he is 2-5 on five previous visits.

Zapata Miralles Solidifies Top 100 Status

With just a couple of months to round off the regular ATP season, Bernabe Zapata Miralles is in the driver’s seat to clinch a top 100 year-end ranking for the first time in his career.

His strong results on the Challenger Tour (a title in Meerbusch and a runner-up finish in Sevilla) and a Grand Slam breakthrough at the French Open (reached the fourth round as a qualifier) have seen him break the Top 100 for the first time.

And Zapata Miralles has not looked back as he continues to cement among the ATP’s best, sitting comfortably at 78th in the current rankings.

However, he will need to arrest a bad run of results outside his beloved clay, where he won just once in main draw action on hard courts this year.

Daniel v Zapata Miralles Prediction and Tip

While home advantage should help Daniel, he is vastly experienced on hard courts. Some of his best wins have been recorded on this surface and should have a lot more pop in his strokes to defeat Zapata Miralles.

Tip: Daniel to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
