Beatriz Haddad Maia v Karolina Muchova Head to Head

Muchova leads 1-0; their sole meeting came in the qualifiers in an ITF event in Cagnes-Sur-Mer in 2016.

Muchova, Getting Back to her Former Self

Former world number 19 Karolina Muchova is slowly starting to get back to her glory days – at least before a litany of injuries derailed her career.

After a tricky back/abdominal injury kept her out of action for over seven months, the Czech began the 2022 season at the Miami Open – with a third-round appearance. Things picked up a bit, and in the French Open, she stunned Maria Sakkari to reach round three – only to retire against Amanda Anisimova with a twisted ankle.

The next few months went by with early exits in the Wimbledon, US Open, and a few other events. For Muchova, these were all fitness tests, and it was not until last week that she showed signs of resurgence.

Playing in Tallinn, Karolina reached round three before bowing out to Kaia Kanepi in three gruelling sets 2-6, 6-3, 6-7(6).

Nonetheless, the fact remains that the three-time major quarterfinalist Muchova managed to play consistently – without getting troubled by her body.

Maia, On a Roll

Like Muchova, Beatriz Haddad Maia is also coming off a quarterfinal result in Tallinn (defeat to Barbora Krejcikova). The only difference is she has had a much better season overall.

In fact, the Brazilian has been this season’s rising-star story as she is now World No. 15 with a record of 47-21 and over $1.2 million in prize money. She has reached the quarterfinal in her last three tournaments – stretching across Slovenia, Japan, and Estonia.

Her big wins include the runner-up feat in the Canadian Open, the title runs in Nottingham and Birmingham, and doubles runner-up in the Australian Open. Maia also reached the final in a couple of Challenger events.

Of course, she has also been beaten several times by lower-ranked players – giving Muchova an example to follow.

Maia v Muchova Prediction and Tip

This match can go either way. Maia is the heavy favourite, but Muchova seems spirited and confident at the moment. She has a good record against the top 20 players on the tour and can very well go the distance here.
